A New Kind of Normal

This past week my husband had a heart procedure. A week before his surgery, the Holy Spirit had given me the wisdom to freeze meals for myself. So I packed my meals, some kitchen utensils, even laundry soap. I kept thinking I was silly, but now that we have been here and the hospital has been in lock-down, I soon recognized there was nothing trivial about such planning.

As I was worrying about my husband's surgery, others were out stocking their homes to be prepared during the virus threat. I had no idea what supplies I had back at our house, for it was the last thing on my mind before we left.

At night when I went back to my room, I would try to order supplies online. I had little luck because the internet wouldn't work, or the items I wanted to order were gone. I would sigh, shut my laptop, and say, "God, I trust in you." Please know this isn't a request for items. WE ARE GOOD!

The place I am staying in is attached to the hospital. There is a laundry room. After day six, I ran out of clothes, so I grabbed my clothes, laundry soap and softener, and headed to the laundry room.

While I waited for the laundry to finish, I got caught up on Facebook, Instagram, and the news. The same theme I saw on these sites was the daunting question, "Now What?"

Day to day, as my husband's progress went back and forth, I would think to myself, "now what?" I soon realized that it was this one simple task of doing laundry I found peace. Why? Because it was a normal routine.

The beautiful thing about doing normal activities is it distracts us from panic and worrying. So what can we do as we ride the storm of 'Now What?" Go and do the normal thing in your homes. Or if you are like me wherever you are placed.

When you look back in history, there has always been something that changed the course of people's lives. And yet people did the normal daily activities in their homes.

Now is a perfect time to get caught up and find the "New Kind of Normal" in your day, especially during these "Now What" times of our lives.
