I'm Sorry!

Why are these words so hard to say? I think the reason is because it takes a tremendous amount of courage.

To say I am sorry is to admit that I don't have it altogether and that I made a mistake.

Do you know we are intrinsically good? Yes we are, because we have been made in the image and likeness of God. Yet we are not perfect due to our fallen nature. Everyday we will have decisions to make to choose good or evil.

One of the best lessons I learned about saying I was sorry was in high school, when I was studying for my driver's license. My parents would let me practice driving a vehicle around our farmyard. The rules were that I would ask them permission and that one of them would be around while I practiced driving.

One morning I had asked my dad for permission and his response was yes but I was to wait until he got home. My dad was busy and it was getting late in the day. I was anxious so I got into his pickup and was on my way to practice driving in the pasture. When all of a sudden the pickup came to a halt. I went outside to see what was going on and the front wheels of the pickup were buried in mud. My uncle tried to pull out the vehicle with a tractor with no luck, and then my dad came driving up to the scene.

I was scared and felt bad. My dad sent me back to the house. There were no words exchanged. I finally found an ounce of courage and went to my dad and said, "I am sorry dad." Then I asked him what my punishment would be?

My dad said, "Lisa I have been watching you and you have punished yourself enough. You are forgiven."

I will never forget my dad's words. I fretted and stewed about saying those two words "I'm sorry". But once they rolled off of my tongue, I felt relieved and forgiveness was on the other side.

As a society we hide our imperfections because we fear no one will like us, hire us or even marry us, but in reality if we all took a look in the mirror everyone of us is imperfect and have sinned. This is why we were in need of a Savior.

So the next time you chose wrongly, pray and ask Jesus to give you courage to to go to the one you have offended and ask for forgiveness.

True healing begins for everyone by these two simple words, "I'm Sorry."
