So Now What?
In Genesis, when Adam and Eve ate of the forbidden fruit, they appeared naked, became ashamed and hid. God asks them why they were hiding. He knew, but wanted Adam and Eve to acknowledge the truth.
This is the case for us today in the Church. It doesn’t matter the denomination. Sin has crept into the leadership of our churches.
The secret in the churches today are entangled in gluttony, sloth, envy, pride, greed, anger and lust. The truth is coming out bigly regarding the sins of the leaders; unfortunately it has been there for a while. In the last two years, I have researched about what was going on in the churches, and after a while, instead of saying this cannot be true, I realized there was too much information to ignore what was going on and I begin to realize this must be true.
So why didn’t we all know this sooner? Why didn’t the leaders who were not a part of it speak out? I remember last year asking someone if there was systems in place, if a leader went down the wrong road. The response was no.
How about those who attend the church diligently, why didn’t we ask questions? I think it was because we got caught up in working our two or three jobs; we wanted to bury our heads in the sand and look for entertainment to fill the gap of stress or doubts. We chose to not get involved or pay attention. We didn’t want to rock the boat fearing what others might think. We may have at times idolized the leaders or we just thought because of their position they could be trusted. We lost focus on our destiny as a child of God.
Each of us has been created in the image and likeness of God. Each one of us was given an intellect to think and a heart to feel. Instead we have bought the lie we can’t think for ourselves or let’s just let the leaders do it for us. So we give our freedoms away to the lies, and place humans on a pedestal. We have become lackadaisy, just like the story of a frog sitting in lukewarm water. The frog becomes accustomed to the lukewarm water, and doesn’t recognize the water is becoming hotter and eventually the frog dies.
So here we are and it is time to seek the truth instead of hide from it. There has been hurt, oppression, manipulation and twisting the truth. We have a lot of victims out those who were voiceless, who need a shoulder to lean on.
A family member was abused by clerics and went to court regarding his situation. He still struggles from the incident, and my heart hurts for him. His one question is how God could let this happen. Unfortunately it wasn’t God, it was sin. So I pray for him that one day he would be overwhelmed by the love of God. God sees; God knows; and God cares, and the truth can’t be hidden from God.
Jesus is our King and He has won the war, but each of us has a specific purpose for the kingdom, and we can no longer sit on the sidelines. To impact the world for Christ it will take more than the leaders it will take all of us. So here is a simple plan, read Scriptures, pray and than rise up for the church because it needs you.
Matthew 22:37-40, Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
