Advent Reflection - Week One

This week we will be praying and pondering over Angel Gabriel who came to Mary with a message from God. Read Luke 1:26-38.

Out of the four Gospels, the Gospel of Luke is the only one which describes The Annunciation of Mary in detail. In Luke’s reading one can see Mary’s faithfulness to God’s call for her life.

In the Gospel of Luke, the angel Gabriel exclaims to Mary, “Hail, full of grace, The Lord is with you!” (Luke 1:26-28).

For a Jewish lady of Mary’s time to hear, ‘The Lord is with you!’ would signify she is called to assume an urgent part in God’s arrangement of salvation. In the Old Testament this expression was regularly utilized when somebody was being required an extraordinary mission.[1] The principal case of this can be found in the Old Testament when God presents himself to Moses. At the point when God called Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt he said, “Surely I will be with you, and this should be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: when you have brought the general population out of Egypt, you might venerate God at this mountain” (Exodus 3:12).

The correlation of Gabriel’s visitation to Mary and God calling upon you for such a specific plan is a test of faith. It is a struggle to find ourselves willing to say “let it be done to thee according to thy word,”

There is a tug of war within a person; with the source of the struggle the feeling of unworthiness. However, God knew you before you were born and you were created for such a calling and for such a time as this.

Ponder throughout this week the reading from Luke and pray for God’s gentle guidance to His plans for you.
