Mudslinging

Last night as I was trying to fall asleep, I was overwhelmed with our country, I wish I could say it was in a good way.

I have a confession to make, my daily prayer during this election process was that the truth of the parties and their candidates would be revealed. Every day there is truth coming forth about all political parties and their candidates.

The problem now is what to do with the truth? Why does it matter? And, how does one handle the truth?

• You can not look to the news media for the truth for they have their agendas. I am not one of them, and neither are you. The news today reminds me of the movie “Newsies.”
• The DNC and RNC are running away from truth and disclaiming any association of their candidates. When all goes well, the candidates are their friends, and when it goes wrong, then they turn their backs.
• While the rest of America deals with truth by offering their opinions on what is true and how their friends should think and deal with the truth on their Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. As we watch this election process unravel,America is mudslinging with those who sided with the supposedly “more evil” party. Just for the record, I believe everyone probably knew the candidates were not saints.

The truth we hear offers us a means to pause, reflect and pray. The truth is not for us to condemn and cast judgement. Judgement is not ours to cast. We have many problems in America whether a person is Christian or not. Addictions of all kinds are happening among real people, even Christians. American’s are funny for we offer forgiveness to some and not to others. We decide and make judgments every day what is evil. One can see there are double standards for handling the truth.

I have a question for you, have you ever had someone close to you hurt your feelings, or struggled with an addiction? Usually the first question we ask is “how could they do this…?”

In reality, we too have disappointed people by our words and actions. The same question “how could they do this …” has probably been asked about each of us.

By pausing, we can look in the mirror and examine our own brokenness. The finger we use to point to everyone else’s weaknesses is the same one we should use to look at ourselves. As A Christian I am reminded that there is no perfect human, and truth always wins. People can try to manipulate and control truth and call it conspiracies but no matter what truth will always come out. I am not perfect and have disappointed people. I also know so have you. As truth continues to come out, may I suggest pause, reflect and pray.

There is good news about truth; the result of truth is it may cause people to confess and ask forgiveness. Instead of choosing self-righteous, pause, reflect, and pray for those who ask for forgiveness. We are not in any place to cast judgment.

So how do we get past the mudslinging and vote for a president? For myself, I will:

• First look in the mirror and recognize no one, including myself will pass the perfect test.
• Second, Pray.
• Third, look at what would be good for everyone. Everybody, meaning EVERY single person.
• Fourth, to make a decision to stop mudslinging. Instead set an example for the youth and my neighbors.

We are learning that words matter and what you say can cause good or harm. So why not choose to say something nice. As my mom and dad taught me when I was little, if you can’t say something nice, then you should say nothing at all.
