I Thirst!
C
Patience is a virtue. I have to admit it is truly a hard virtue for me. We have had a hard year and half as a family with various things ranging from long days and nights at a job that could have easily been two jobs; new bosses; as a husband and wife working together at their jobs at a church-the reason we moved out here; daughters in two colleges; my dad had an emergency pacemaker; my step mom had throat cancer, and the death of our dog.
In it all, our prayers consisted of pleading, moaning and tears.
Psalm 56:8 “You have taken account of my wanderings; Put my tears in Your bottle. Are they not in Your book?”
I love my church, and faith. We would never give up on our faith. I know that the church is not perfect and neither are we. To make sure I was hearing the voice of God through it all, I sought out spiritual direction. A very good call. Our direction was to keep my faith at the top even if it meant to attend another church. Focus on our vocation of marriage and family, review the Serenity Prayer, and not to worry about what we couldn’t change. We did as advise and began our journey of trusting God and being patient. We attended a different Parish and our faith rejuvenated. As a family we tightened up our prayer and guarded our time so we could hang out together more.
I so loved my job of working with teens and young adults sharing the Good news and how God loves them. I was holding on to my place for dear life. The storm continued on. I was sad more than happy and I knew it was affecting me and my family greatly. Following more direction I knew God was calling us out. Eventually the time came and my husband found another job. Two and a half months later I stepped out and went home.
Seven months later, I still do not have a job, a plan or an idea of what is next. So for now, I wait. I am ok with that, even if others do not understand. That brings me to the “I Thirst” title. I do thirst for…What is next God? Isn’t that our nature to go after the next thing? However God is in this and He wants my patience and trust that He is working things out for my good.
Romans 8:28 “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
I pray for those who have filled our positions, the church and the great families and youth. God has surrounded us with great people who pray for and with us, fellowship and together we grow in wisdom of Scripture. I am living for God and His plan. I will no longer concern myself of what others think or question why God called us away from what we moved out here to do. My thirst is for God. When I surrender to His promise that only He can satisfy, I shall be full.
John 4:14 “But whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.”
